Colorado Avalanche Stops VGK's Effort to Clinch NHL's Top Spot
Short-handed with only 15 skaters and a bit weary, our Vegas Golden Knights fell short to the visiting Colorado Avalanche at The Fortress in T-Mobile Arena this evening. VGK scored in the first period on a goal by Alex Pietrangelo, assisted by Mark Stone, but that would be the only scoring for the home team.
Colorado got a goal in the 2nd by Andre Burakovsky and the game winner by J.T. Compher at 11:33 in the final period. VGK Goalie Robin Lerner took the loss, while making some tough saves throughout the match. In the end Vegas just wasn't able to keep up the energy that they've typically mustered when falling behind late in the season.
With the loss, the Golden Knights failed to secure their 8th straight home win and first ever President's trophy as the team with the best record in the league
VGK play their last regular season game Wednesday night at San Jose, which will be the Sharks last game, as they will miss the 2021 playoffs. At this point, it is still unclear how that game may affect the VGK's playoff seeding.
